Nares, he was born on 6 May 1914. He served with the Royal
Artillery and trained as an architect. However, he was drawn into
advertising, working as as executive of the Crawford Agency where he
managed the Martini contract.
He married, first, Jane Thompson in 1938. They had a daughter, Caroline "Harriette" Nares, born in 1940. She married Robert Belmont and had three children, Sophia (1964, Teresa (1967) and Jason (1969).
David was a colourful character and had three further wives. He married Fenella "Erica" Pennell in 1953, Ulla Fainstain (nee Knutsson-Hall) in 1955 and Primrose "Ann" Kempton in 1964. For him it was fourth time lucky and this marriage lasted until his death in 1980.
