The second son from the second marriage of William Henry Nares, He was christened on 8 Nov 1848 in New Machar, Aberdeen. The 1881 census shows him living in Aberdeenshire, as a bachelor, where he farmed 213 acres, employing 5 men, 1 boy and 2 women. In 1887 he married Ida Jackson, elder daughter of George Jackson, who was Provost of the Royal Burgh of Inverurie.
They had five children, Ida May (d1902), Christina (d1899), Grace, Mary and Henry. At present we have no other information about any of these.
Alexander was still living (at Parkhill Cottage) in 1907.
